Lyme Regis Fossil Walk
I went to Lyme Regis on Saturday with my wife and parents for a fossil walk lead by two experts from the Lyme Regis Museum. The walk lasted just over 3 1/2 hours, the experts gave us a detailed explanation of why the region is so important and why it still yielding scientifically important finds and will continue to do so. They explained how fossils are formed and what to look for and where to look when trying to find fossils. I was fortunate enough to find 2 fossilised icthyosaur vertebrae. The walk was absolutely fascinating and thoroughly enjoyable however when I return again I will ensure that I do so in the Winter after some heavy storms as fossil finds were very scarce during our walk. This is because the wind the and rain on the cliffs cause rock slides and then heavy waves break up the rocks releasing more fossils.
