Open Ringing Match at St Stephen-In-Brannel

Saturday 23rd August saw St Stephen-in-Brannel host an open ringing match to celebrate the 750th anniversary of the Church which occurs next month. The format of the competition was to rise and ring the back six in rounds for 6 minutes and then to fall at leisure. After an excellent evening of ringing and a superb tea, St Columb were deservedly judged the winners, with their second set only just being pipped to the post. The Withiel set I rang treble for taking third place.

Brilliant Button wins 200th Grand Prix

Just watched the Hungarian Grand Prix which Jenson Button won brilliantly for McLaren! This was Jenson's 200th Grand Prix start, at the track where he won his maiden Grand Prix victory with Honda. Button drove brilliantly and coped best with the changing weather when others spun around him and made the wrong call to change to intermediate tyres when it started to rain.

Lyme Regis Fossil Walk

I went to Lyme Regis on Saturday with my wife and parents for a fossil walk lead by two experts from the Lyme Regis Museum. The walk lasted just over 3 1/2 hours, the experts gave us a detailed explanation of why the region is so important and why it still yielding scientifically important finds and will continue to do so. They explained how fossils are formed and what to look for and where to look when trying to find fossils. I was fortunate enough to find 2 fossilised icthyosaur vertebrae.

Lyme Regis Town Mill Bakery

Went to Lyme Regis yesterday with my wife and parents. Arrived at 9 am and went looking for somewhere to have a cuppa. We found the Town Mill Bakery who were serving breakfast, consisting of freshly baked bread, pastries with local butter and jam. You sit on benches set at long tables in the front of the bakery, the eating area separated from the back of where the staff are baking by a counter on which fresh bread, pastries are pilled high for you to help yourself. It was a case of help yourself and have as much or as little as you want
